The Tamar Network for Leadership and Education was founded in 2022 by successful entrepreneur and educator Sarah Steinberg Greenwald with the conviction that an exceptional education has the power to elevate and empower students to realize their fullest potential. The Network established Jerusalem’s first model high school for girls from the Haredi community. At the high school, talented teachers and a holistic curriculum envelop students in a nurturing environment where they are both challenged and encouraged to cultivate their unique strengths and perspectives and academic abilities. In the future, the Tamar Network strives to serve as a blueprint for other educational institutions seeking inspiration. The evolving programs and teaching modules will be made available, and the Network’s staff will provide guidance and support.
When students receive respect they appreciate their own value and worth and are respectful of their peers and adults.
Every student is inherently great and has infinite potential.
Students must thrive in all aspects of their lives.
It is our responsibility to use our resources to positively impact others, including our families, communities and societies at large.
We aspire to peak performance and highest standards in all areas.
Students should be active, mindfully participate, and personally engage with the learning process.
We believe in loving and actualizing the essence of every student.
Honesty and transparency is paramount.
Sarah Steinberg Greenwald is the Founder of the Tamar Network for Education and Leadership and Principal of Rosh Shearim High School. From 2012-2022, she was Founder and Board Chair of Shira Chadasha Elementary School in Jerusalem where she helped grow the school from 18 to nearly 200 students.
Prior to her career in education, Sarah was a serial entrepreneur and established several startups. She began her business career by founding and heading PP & Co Pharmaceuticals, a nutraceutical company where she developed and registered two innovative patents and distributed her products through 25% of independent pharmacies in Israel. Sarah also created and managed a business importing and marketing fine silver jewelry from Asia. Throughout her private sector career, Sarah was involved in the investment of residential real estate in Israel.
As Sarah became increasingly aware of the pressing need for education and advancement for underserved sectors in Israel, she redirected her entrepreneurial efforts from the private sector to education. Soon after she founded Shira Chadasha, the school was recognized for its excellence in education and its novel approach for actualizing student potential. Subsequently, Sarah was lobbied by parents and others to develop a model high school with a similar philosophy leading her to found Rosh Shearim in 2022.
Sarah earned her MBA at Bar Ilan University. She also studied in England at the London School of Economics and Jewish Philosophy at Gateshead Jewish Teachers Training Seminary.

Tamar Network for Education and Leadership celebrates the life and virtues of Geraldine “Gerry” Steinberg whose Hebrew name was Tamar.
Born in 1925, Gerry Steinberg was a woman of valor, a community activist, and an advocate for the underserved. Her presence always regal, she accorded honor and respect to every person whom she encountered. As a pioneer and role model, Gerry was one of the first women to graduate Stanford Law School alongside Sandra Day O’Connor, who is best known as the first female Supreme Court justice. Gerry was a master peacemaker and mediator, who took pride in resolving differences and creating collaborations.
As a high-level public servant and environmentalist, the Honorable Santa Clara County Supervisor Gerry Steinberg led the efforts to create the master plan for the then developing Silicon Valley, which today has become one of the world’s leading economic engines.
As a leader in the East Palo Alto Community Law Project, Gerry used her legal talents to advocate on behalf of underserved local minority populations. Over the years, the Community Law Project evolved to fit the community’s expanding needs. Similar to the Tamar Network, Community Law Project ultimately strives to empower individuals in their own lives so they can then impact their broader communities.
Gerry was an early and active supporter of the activities of the Tamar Network for Education and Leadership in Israel, and it was her influence and inspiration that planted the seeds for the thriving school and network the organization has grown into today.
